Scientific Computing's Derek Ross and Alin Marin Elena were both  looking at product updates and new technologies from vendors at the conference. They also attended some of the tutorials  to gain new knowledge. ISC2017 provides a platform for knowledge exchange and networking with HPC and data-intensive science experts, industry representatives, universities and other research organisations.

Alin says, "  It's an execellent opportunity to polish my technical knowledge on different programming paradigms for HPC and also network with members of the standard commmittee for OpenMP."

Colleagues from the Hartree Centre were participating in some of the conference sessions - for instance, Hartree Centre Director Alison Kennedy spoke at a workshop on Factors Affecting the Adoption of Machine Learning Technologies in Industrial Collaborations.

It was an interesting and insightful conference with 13 fascinating HPC topics grouped under three categories: systems, applications, and emerging topics, which were complemented by the workshops and tutorials.
