​SciML has a wide range of active projects using machine learing to enhance fundamental scientific research. We work with a diverse range of partners based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and beyond. SciML and Cryo Electron Microscopy

Cryo-EM is a rapidly growing field and with the advancements in both hardware and software, we can achieve near-atomic reconstructions. SciML has various projects and collaborations in order to explore the applicability of machine learning models during various steps in the data processing pipeline and interpretation

SciML and ISIS

ISIS Neutron and Muon Source is a world-leading centre for research at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. The neutron and muon instruments at ISIS give unique insights into the ​properties of materials​ on the atomic scale. To find out more about how the SciML team is helping to advance the research done at ISIS check out out SciML and ISIS researach page. ​ ​

SciML and Environmental Sensors

SciML is working in collaboration with Turing, CEDA, NCEO and BAS on Environmental sensor project on improving earth observation applications using satellite sensors. To bridge the spatial, temporal scales, we are working in combining various satellites data with different modalities using machine learning.


SciML and ePSIC

We work together the electron Physical Science Imaging Centre (ePSIC) microscope facility at Diamond Light Source. Here we are working on projects to use machine learning to increase the speed and enhance the resolution at which these microscopes can probe the atomic structure of materials.

SciML and Technology​

 


The STFC Technology Department has significant expertise in developing and manufacturing advanced detector systems. Innovative detector technology has direct applications to other STFC facilities such as Diamond, ISIS, and CLF, as well as to the larger community. We are working with the STFC Technology Department to enhance the capabilities of detector technology with data-driven methods.


SciML and the Central Laser Facility

SciML is working closely with the Central Laser Facility in a number of aspects to help build the next generation of laser science in the UK. We are working on projects ranging from control of laser instruments through to advanced data analysis of results from the facility.
