I joined the STFC’s graduate scheme in SCD in August 2018, after graduating from a Master’s degree in Theoretical Physics at the University of York. I developed an interest in programming and software development over the course of my degree and was attracted to STFC by the prospect of contributing to ground-breaking science.

My first project in SCD involved developing a simulation code for helping to analyse muon spectroscopy results from ISIS. This gave me a chance to get involved with a computational research group and develop real scientific software. I got to use knowledge from my degree and build on my software development skills.

My second and current project is the development of a website for displaying a catalogue of UK research infrastructures. This has taught me much about web development, which I had previously not worked in. I have also had the opportunity to develop my interpersonal skills in this project by interacting with the UKRI stakeholders who have requested the creation of this website.
