"Research Computing Delivers"

CIUK sign on the front of the conference centre

Cyber security is a rapidly growing topic in technology, routinely hitting headlines. The high performance computing (HPC) and high performance data analytics (HPDA) communities are increasingly affected as the focus on security at the facility level widens to include the applications that run on them. There is a myriad of competing concerns, and this is becoming a key topic of debate for researchers, software engineers and hardware vendors alike.

Attention to these concerns is increasing in urgency as organisations integrate HPC and HPDA practices into their core business, especially in highly regulated as sectors such as finance and healthcare. Is cyber security as simple as a bolt-on solution, or should it be integral to how we manage information, secure systems against vulnerabilities, encrypt and protect data?

We’ll explore all these themes and more with industry speakers and a panel session in the Cyber Security in HPC breakout session hosted by the Hartree Centre at Computing Insight UK 2017.

CIUK 2018 Breakout Sessions

As with previous Computing Insight UK events there was a series of parallel breakout sessions running alongside the exhibition and the presentation programme.

Wednesday 12 December (morning) - IBM Power AI Workshop

Wednesday 12 December (afternoon) - Spectrum Scale User Group

The Spectrum Scale user group is an independent user group which focusses on IBM’s Spectrum Scale (formerly GPFS) storage product. Our user group meetings being together people from across the community and usually involve a technical update from IBM as well as user talks and discussion on the application and challenges of using Spectrum Scale to support the storage requirement of HPC and research organisations.

Thursday 13 December (all day) - NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute

Boston.png   This session is organised by BOSTON.

Boston Limited are global delivery partners of the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute and are offering CIUK attendees*the opportunity to undertake Deep Learning Fundamentals for Computer Vision; an instructor-led, full-day workshop covering the foundations of deep learning. The course offers hands-on training in Image Classification, Object Detection, and Neural Network Deployment using popular frameworks.
