I joined STFC in September 2015 as part of the graduate scheme, after completing a master’s in Astrophysics at the University of Liverpool. I have already completed four six-month projects, gaining experience in a wide variety of subjects, such as GUI development, system administration, continuous integration systems, high performance software development and MySQL databases. I also completed a 3 month project in the Particle Physics Department implementing a particle tracking algorithm on a GPU.
I have been in the TCPG since December 2017 working as a software developer on the PACE (Proper Analysis of Coherent Excitations) project. This project aims to improve and accelerate the analysis of inelastic neutron scattering data at the ISIS synchrotron, through parallelising and optimising the data analysis software Horace, and using the output from modelling codes such as CASTEP to perform huge simulations of experimental data.
