​​​Shirley's career in STFC spans 37 years; she joined as a young mother in a part-time role within a Typing Pool using a very modern IBM Golf Ball Typewriter!  Following a number of years as a Word Processor Operator she progressed to a full-time role as a PA to the (then) Head of Theory and Computational Science Group in 1991.  Shirley has seen many changes including the merger of the Computational Science and Engineering Department with e-Science to form the Scientific Computing Department.

Shirley supports the Director of SCD and manages the Admin Team.  Although enjoying “partial retirement" the role remains fulfilling and busy.

Shirley enjoys reading, spending time with her granddaughter, her own family and her two dogs.​​
